8 babies are born every day with a heart condition, and many more will acquire a heart condition during childhood. Families of babies born with childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD) face enormous emotional and financial stress, often receiving the news unexpectedly. Having surgery is not a cure, and individuals with CoHD will face unique challenges for the rest of their lives. For many, this will include ongoing medical treatment, lengthy hospital stays, and repeated heart surgeries. HeartKids is Australia’s only national organisation dedicated to children, young people and families impacted by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD), providing information, support, connection and advocacy across every stage of their unique journey. We exist to ensure the one million Australians impacted by CoHD have a trusted source of information, support, and a voice to advocate for better health outcomes and help them live well.
